A marketplace for fresh, local poultry eggs

Our Story

In 2012, our daughter was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer at the age of 5. The cancer, Ewings Sarcoma, completely took over our family's lives. We temporarily moved her (and her siblings) 3 hours away as she went through many months of chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherpay was very scary to us. To combat the toxicity of the chemotherapy and to find ways to starve the cancer, we were diligent to reduce our family's exposures to household chemicals and to choose our foods very carefully, by opting for organic and whole foods as much as we could.

We removed processed foods out of our diet as much as we could. During our time in isolation due to our daughter's immunocompromised state, we also began to see all the areas in our daily routine where germs were easily transmitted; from places like stores, to cash handling, to playground equipment, even to our own home. Our daughter made it through chemotherapy rather well (considering the other kids we watched not do so well), is fully recovered and disease-free! We attribute her healing to God and us being pushed to pay attention to nutrition and our surrounding environment.

Well, let's back up just a bit. Our backyard chickens came shortly after finishing chemotherapy. We also began to see some deficiencies in selling eggs - mainly, the handling and transferring of dirty cash, but also, the different places one needs to search for eggs (Facebook, Craigslist, etc) and then a lack of info about those eggs, the chickens, the feed, etc. The improvement we wanted to see, was to make it easier for people to find and be confident they are buying truly healthy, local, community sourced, fresh, beautiful, farm-to-table, pasture-fed poultry eggs, and to buy or sell them without the need to handle cash.

8 years later, enter Yolk Folks - Take 2.

So we decided to try to figure out a better solution and built Yolk Folks. We saw the need for a one stop shopping place for eggs. One could say we're an Etsy of small egg producers or hen hobbyists.
